So i had a "gunsmith" as he calls himself, install a target trigger/hammer on my model 19. Low and behold the action binds in double action, but works fine in single action by cocking the hammer back. I will be getting my money back but off hand, can anyone see any issues from the pic ive attached.

Don't try to cycle the action with the side plate removed unless the tension screw for the mainspring is substantially backed off. Things could break......

Oh i know that much at least, just took the plate off for the pic!

The hammer has the double action part that needs to be fitted correctly.
The gunsmith could have swapped the original hammer's part onto the new hammer.
Look at the Kunnhausen book for references.
Easy fix

Im willing to bet he did as the target hammer did not come with a sear. I have a book on the way. Would it require a new sear to be fitted or possibly modifying the existing one?

Not to harp on this as I have posted this multiple times. It is NOW time for us to become self sufficient - as much as possible! The new laws, restrictions and oppressive shipping fees are doing what they have been designed for - preventing and hindering us from getting our firearms worked on and repaired at a reasonable cost. This is not an accident and will only get much worse!

Time to learn yourself or to find the needle in the haystack GS. Sorry I have to say this - but I see it as a necessity. Thankfully, your situation is no big deal and a simple fix is there.

I agree 100% You can learn a whole bunch with an old model 10 and some parts.

I'd guess just from the pic that the replacement hammer had been altered some already.
The top, flat area just above the SA sear edge looks very thin.
Maybe polished down in another life/action job.
Maybe just the pic.

That leaves too much take up distance betw it and the DA sear to engage quickly enough to lift the hammer in DA mode.

It has to take over the motion from the initial engagement of trigger & hammer which occurs on the under side of the hammers sear edge as the trigger motion lifts the hammer directly.
Then it's passed off to the contact betw that upper flat on the trigger & the DA sear.

The DA sear/strut may also be just too short for this set up. A longer one properly fitted may cure the issue alone.

Just what I see there.
Send oil..

Wow! I now wish I had bought one of those $250 model 10's a few years back! Good learning tool.

That said, I love just being able to fully disassemble and reassemble my revolvers. My friends think I'm nuts to even take the side plate off!

J&G still has some model 10 gun smith specials Model 10-7 or 8s missing the barrels. They are now up to $250. I bought 7 of them when they were in the 180$ range. $50 or so for a barrel, a longer extractor rod and you can have a functional learning tool. Ebay is full of cheap parts if your patience

How far you want to go with it is up to you, you equipment and skills, I could fit a barrel with a vice, a couple of files and some hard wood blocks
