Model 19, macro perspective.

One of my alltime favorites is the model 19.
It was the duty pistol my father carried some 35 years ago and, so it goes, it became the one I would have to have some day.
I recently started another thread on this same gun related to some issues I had at the range last weekend. Well, issues aside I still love the balance, quickness and just plain shootability of this gun.

I think the 19 in four inch trim is maybe the greatest and best revolver of all time. Affordable, accurate, reliable, perfectly balanced, and GORGEOUS. At least yours is.

The 19 wasn't a premier item in the S&W lineup back then--just another service revolver being mass produced. It's just that quality in the US has fallen to such a low point that now, looking back, that Model 19 is a comparatively finely handcrafted firearm. Sad, really--we have completely lost our way in this country.

No kidding! I was surprised when I saw just how jagged it really is, under magnification.

Did you get the issues resolved?

Not yet, I have ordered some parts and done some deep cleaning of the cylinder. I will hopefully be able to get away, to the range, today to see if I get better ejection results.

I wish I had a ring light.
I used a piece of white foam core board to reflect the late afternoon light onto the gun. I used a tripod and, since I started late in the day, the natural light was fading fast. Some of the exposures were in the 12-15 second range.

I couldn't agree more. I have fired fancier, more expensive revolvers in the past but there is just something about how this one fits me. It's so subjective isn't it.
Putting the first six rounds, all six mind you, through a fifty cent sized ring at 25 feet, fired from a nearly 30 year old used/ new to me/never fired by me before gun may contribute to my above sentiment.

VERY nice piece indeed! I currently only own 2 Smiths, a 6" 686-6 and a 6.5" 629-6 Classic. My Dad has a 6" 19-3. And right now I am utterly infatuated with a 4" 19-3 at my LGS. Just a beautiful, well balanced piece in look and feel......Now if I could only figure out a way to get it past the wife! LOL!

Haha....I tried for years, and finally this past year my wife relented and started shooting with me. Buying a gun every now and then is a whole heck of alot easier now.

Must be nice! LOL! It was almost exactly a year since I bought my 686 when I bought the 629 Classic. And she STILL gave me the breeze about it! Just helped her fill out her CC permit forms tonight...Hopefully that will break the ice a little bit. Hee hee.
