I thought that also. Middle initial is larger, suspected might be last name. But ... we will never know, thanks again for your replies.
And I am still satisfied, this revolver is the tightest one I own and dates back to 1960.

It looks like a professional engraving. I thought you were talking about some ham fisted guy with an electric pencil. Personally, I would not be concerned since it is so well executed. It is part of the gun's history. It has a tale to tell.
