So, asking the crew as i have not heard of this but never say never with S&W...

1970 Model 19 No Dash
"Special Features" on the box label, written in form the factory (as far as i can tell) says Night Sights!

***? Somebody has to know more than me re this?!

Thank you Dave

The only night sights I recall from 1970 were flashlights. If the sights are tritium, I would be shocked, astounded, and amazed if they were factory. Radium had been used on watch faces but had been banned.

My guess? Aftermarket, both the sights and the label.

A picture of the revolver you are referring to would certainly be nice here as tritium filled sites have a specific look to them it would be very easy to spot, especially a adjustable rear with tritium lamps

The factory did not supply self luminescent, tritium sites in the 1970s. What has occurred over the decades is front and rear revolver sites have been painted with photo luminescent paints that glow in the dark after being exposed to light however this is not a feature that the factory ever offered

Today it is not uncommon to find revolvers whose front sight is tritium filled. However I cannot recall the factory ever offering any revolver with a adjustable rear sight that is tritium filled

Have the answer!

in 1970 i was in the 7th Grade @ Nobel Jr. High School, Northridge. CA - yes close where the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake was. What did i know about S&Ws? Not much.

Looking at the photo album of the Box/Box Label and enlarging the pics of the label mystery solved. The box label is a sticker over a sticker.

In looking at the box label more carefully the Night Sights label is a label over the original factory label.  Clearly seen.  Different material/different cutting die for the label/different radius corners/different material type and age.  Obviously added on years later.

You all don't know this but i've been in my packaging business for 41 years/spent 30 years selling "stickers" too,  I know this chit.

Now we all know...

Best, Dave
