model 19 shooting high

I have a model 19 that is shooting about 6 inches high at 10 yards. I have the sight set as low as it can go. I see that there are blades that are available in different sizes. what size wouid give me the lowest point of impact?

I believe the .106" blade would be the lowest possible blade height. Do you have any idea what blade is in it now?

Depending on the blade that is in it now you may not need to go that short.

You can measure the sight insert with a caliper/micrometer. Just the height of the blade itself, the sight body is not included in the measurement.

Point of impact for .38 Special ammunition can be quite different to .357 Magnum ammunition.

Do you get the same results using both calibers?

Knowing the ammunition you are using would be helpful here. A slower velocity bullet may print high no matter the sight blade height.

Need lots more information. What weight bullet, is it full power magnum or reduced power ammo or 38 Special ammo, what subvariant ( Model 19-? ), what barrel length.

I have owned numerous 19's , never had that problem . I don't doubt maybe you have a problem , but before changing out sight blades etc . Have someone else shoot it as well . See if they are having the same problem . If the problem persists , I would first file down the rear sight groove and even the top of the rear sight before changing out sight blades . I have shot my 19's with 180 gr cast bullets on top of a max charge of H110 , never ran out of sight adjustment . Just seems strange to me . Regards Paul

I would first check the front sight is in factory spec. If it is filed down then the gun should shoot high. I have a .38 that was set up with a barrel weight, and previous owner had filed down the front sight to make up for change of impact. Then when I bought it and shot it without the weight it shot way high. A bit of welding and filing fixed it.
