Hey fellas,

I've been fancying a S&W model 19 for a while and a very nice thread opportunity has come up for this beauty. I like to carry the guns that I have so this is a no brained. It's a model 19-7. It seems to have very minor wear and the bluing looks in pretty good shape. I can't believe how much the 2 1/2" versions are going for currently on gunbroker. I believe this is a 2 1/2" version. Are these revolvers worth $600 plus in this shape?

hello 357ALLDAY,

While "$600 plus" isn't a steal of a deal by any means, ask the model 19 snubbie owners how many of them would sell theirs for less than $600 plus? Probably not too many takers.

I hope you get the opportunity. They are wonderful revolvers.

good luck.

Thank you for the reply. I agree the prices on these are high. You can get a ruger sp101 for a lot less but it's only a 5 shot and despite being a great gun it doesn't have the history and attention to detail of a smith.

I think today that's about the going price for them. My first revolver was a 4 inch 19 that has many thousands of rounds through it since early 70s. I've since bought a 2 1/2 inch version and a 66 in that barrel length.
Good luck in your search as locally it took me a long time to find my 2 1/2 inch guns. Of course once I found them they started popping up all over.

As much as I like my 4" M19's, I LOVE my 2 1/2" M19. I would not consider parting with it for less than $600-650. Probably not worth quite that much on the market, but it's easily worth that much to me. I paid $500 for it when I bought it, and I'd buy it all day long for that price again.

If things continue like they have been you can look back and say ... Boy, I got a good deal on that gun when I bought it! My 28 no dash, 6" was $450 a couple of years ago. You don't find them for that now. (V.G.+) What will the future bring??? Bob

I'm not sure any M-19 is worth $600.00 + dollars, but that is the starting price these days:eek: So if you want one in the $600.00 price range get it now.

As for the auction prices, many of the big bucks guns take months to sell.

I traded for it and it's home now. The double action trigger feels great and the single action is very nice and light. Just like my 686p. I really like the bluing. It has some scratches but it's not bad considering it's probably 20 years old. It was a local detective's off duty carry piece. I'm keeping it.

Congratulations! You've posted a pic... good. Now, it is time to take it to the range and give us a report. Happy shooting!

Congratulations! You don't have to wait to gloat a bit, either. I have a track on the 19 snubbie. It's become very popular and much sought after. Here's what I have:

Notice the average price trend is at about $680 as of May 2014. The last 12 prices I collected average $676 (that leaves out the $1055 price—a gunbroker auction— which probably lifts the average and the trend a bit too much).

Nice. I've also noticed that snubbies are going for higher prices. Do you have a breakdown by barrell length?

Only if I own one, used to own one, or lusted after one. Not a comprehensive data collection. Thanks for your kind word. :)
