I finally had the opportunity to get my S&W 44 HE, 3rd Change or Model 1926 out to the range last Thursday for a few minutes of shooting. I put up a couple of big bulls-eye targets and shot from a sandbag rest from a disturbance of 15 yards. I shot 5 rounds SA and 5 in DA mode. The target on the left was shot with Remington 246 gr, RNL .44 Special factory loads and on the right target I used Winchester "Cowboy" loads with a 240 gr. lead, flat-nose bullet. Point of aim was 6 o'clock of the inside scoring ring. Not too bad IMHO. I also shot 5 rounds each thru my chronograph. The 246 gr. load clocked 699 FPS and the 240 gr. load 753 FPS average. I also got in a new 1930 Austin holster from El Paso Saddlery in their russet color with fish-scale stamping to match my belt and cartridge loop slide.
