Here is a recent gun show find. The Model 1950 Army .45 is basically a Model M1917 with the post-war short action. Sales were slow on this fixed sight N frame revolver that was marketed towards those who wanted the proven stopping power of the .45 ACP cartridge in a revolver format. Especially after the Model 19 was introduced in 1955 and offered policemen a potent revolver in a much smaller and lighter package. The Model 1950 .45 Army became the Model 22 in 1957 but as production was very limited by that time, fewer than 200 model marked guns are thought to have been made. This model was discontinued in 1966 with only 3976 total produced from 1951-66. I don't believe the sideplate had ever been off, the action was sluggish and sticky and full of old waxy black sludge. Once cleaned and lubed with a modern gun oil though, it is smooth as silk with perfect timing. I have some new .45 Auto Rim brass waiting to load up for it and it should be a fine shooter.
