I have a new Model 22 45ACP which came with moon clips. Is it safe (OK) to NOT use the moon clips when firing?

Thanks in advance for info...

Yes it is safe, some of the new gun though have a lot of failures to fire (FTF) without the moon clips. This can be solved with a long firing pin from C&S or others.
Get some moon clip tools and a supply of clips and enjoy the fastest reloading there is for revolvers.

Knowing nothing about moon clips except their functional use, what moon clips and tools should I get and where do I get them?

They are basically a tube with a notch cut out of them that the shell fits into.
I believe that Brownells has them.

When I first got my M22, the thought of messing with the moon clips appalled me. I bought some Auto Rim cases and was ready to go. Load one round at a time like I was raised and after 5 or 6 bang. However, the more I messed with the moon clips, the more I use them. I use my M22 for carry and I find the moon clip hss a very fast reload time. You'll like yours.

Why not use polymere clips ? Easy to load, easy to unload spent brass.. ezmoonclip.com

There are lots of tools available, all work well, and most of us will recommend what we have and most likely started with. www.Midwayusa.com has most of them available. You can also shoot Auto Rim ammo without moon clips and they will extract like other guns. Here's what I use.

I have had two 45 acp revolvers. There is no reason why one can't fire them without the moon clips. However, why would you wish to do so? It's a major pain to poke the fired brass out of the cylinder. You don't have to buy a removal tool. I use an old screw driver that I cut down to pull the brass out of my clips. Insert the end of the screw driver into the spent brass and pull. It works good.
