Model 25-2 grips question

I've been looking at a 25-2 for sale online and one of the pictures concerns me about the grips. Near the medallion there appears to be discoloration in the wood. Is this something to be concerned about or is it just a aesthetic issue? I'm thinking it might be due to oil seeping under the medallion and getting into the wood grain? It seems to be too different from the surrounding wood to be a natural feature of the wood grain. The other grip has a very uniform appearance just like the rest of this grip does.

Any input would be appreciated.

Could just be a mark in the wood. Here's my 1980 25-5. Notice the dark marks in the wood.

I think you are right about the oil seeping in.... if it bothers you, there you are.

I would ask the seller for a close-up photo or more information. A replacement set of stocks would be easy to find if it comes to that but may influence what you would pay for the gun.

Ya know, the picture you show does appear to be oil seepage. Other parts of the grip appear to be without physical flaws so I wouldn't concern myself in the least with such a common occurrence....

I wouldn't hesitate for an instance to buy any handgun I wanted if a flaw appeared to be caused by good maintenance practices and not related to abuse or neglect.

I'm assuming the 25 has been fired and used. The least of your "on-line" purchase fears should be a minor imperfection in the wood..... JMHO...

Looks like the coloring of the wood from here. You know, those medallions are pretty thick, so I'd be surprised if the color is from something that got under the metal.

Those are nor diamond grips. IMO, I would worry far more about the condition of the gun. They're not making 25-2's anymore. And the grips look okay to me, anyway.

Appears to be a natural inclusion in the wood. If the gun is in great shape and/or price commiserate, BUY IT!!

Whether its natural or not, it won't hurt you on longterm value.
