Model 25-2, should I reblue?

Hey that ryhmes! I'm contemplating on sending my revolver to get reblued by S&W. It has wear to it but it also has some scratches. It is not beat up like a police gun but it is starting to show age. Now how much do you think a reblue by S&W would hurt the value of this gun? I collect and shoot all my guns. I maintain all of my firearms religiously. This model 25-2 is chambered in 45ACP and it has the 6.5" barrel. Just curious on what your guys/gals thoughts on this would be.

I don't see the point in it if you are going to continue to shot and enjoy that critter! Or, you could sell that horribly abused 25 to me and it won't bother you any more. I think your gun looks pretty nice for a shooter and not sure how a re blue would help in anyway! Kyle

Looks pretty good from here - it is nice to have one or two around with honest wear without any pitting or other signs of abuse. But if you want to dump a few hundred bucks on it and be without it for 6 months plus - go for it. They made plenty of them so not like you would be hurting some future value.

It looks great right now so I do not know what could be gained by re-bluing. And a lot could be lost.

It looks pretty nice in the posted pictures, so unless the other pictures you may post show a lot more use and abuse, rust or pitting, I would keep as is and enjoy it as a shooter.

In my opinion based on your pics, the condition doesn't warrant the expense of a re-blue at this point.

No, you do not need to reblue that beautiful revolver. Take the money you are saving and buy a lot of ammo, holster or even towards another revolver you want!

I can't give you a dollar figure but it will hurt the value. No re-blued gun is worth what an original finish is worth and your's isn't that bad. The worst blemishes are covered by the stocks.

I've never understood the almost universal (not picking on the OP here, making a general observation) knee-jerk reaction of people who acquire a used firearm that shows some wear or use and they immediately want to re-blue it. Good grief!

Unless you pay a premium price at one of the better re-finishers the job will never match the original finish and you sure won't recover that investment. Even S&W's current blue jobs do not match the finer blue finishes they used to put on their better revolvers.

The cost of a re-blue will never be recovered in a sale, unless of course you either lie about it…or find someone dumb enough to think it's better because it's refinished.

None taken! This is the what I wanted to find out. Almost all of my handguns let alone my long guns as well, are in very good to excellent condition. I have no real safe queens except maybe for two. Of all my handguns, this one has the most wear. I treat most of all of my firearms as an investment.
