Thanks so much to jasnake65 here on the forum for a great transaction.
Much appreciated!
A lovely 25-5 4" 45 colt.
I took it to the range and shot it the other day.
First time for a 45 of any kind for me.
A beautiful chunk o' metal.
I'll take some of my own pics of it shortly.

My 4" M25-5 was my first .45 Colt, have added three more since then. I don't see it as similar to the magnums in recoil, I find it pretty mild in comparison.

I have 3 Lever action carbines and 7 or 8 single actions. One was broken, I can't remember if I fixed or sold it. (was a back-up SASS gun)

In the early 80's had a 4" and a 6" 25-5. Federal made a 225 gr Hollow base SWC hollow Point. The ammo was about $8.50/50 at K-Mart. Growing up we had a 8" diameter tree with a nail in it he hung targets on and shot for years using 22's, 9mm's, 38's & 357's. With the first box I cut the tree down. I noticed 5 or 6 inch trees lasted one box and 8 or 9 inch trees lasted 2 boxes. That's when I began using real estate sign frames as target holders. You can shoot trees down with 45's much faster than you can grow them.

My standard reload for 45 Colt is 200 grain cast RNFP over 6.7 grains of WW 231, WLP mixed brass. It's just a hair more powerful than 45 ACP ball ammo with less felt recoil. If you hit a thing, it won't be arguing with you!

I may have a few rounds of that Federal load left from my first 25-5. And some of the boxes, but they're well flogged after many refills with various loads. Most of the brass has survived, surprisingly, but they're semi-retired.

I liked that Federal round. It shot great. Plenty good enough for hunting, too.
