Help folks.....what is a reasonable price to offer a fellow with a model 26 that has a damaged side plate (bent from not knowing how to take it off), had the commemorative markings ground off the side plate and the bbl (that's right)...it was one of the Georgia State Patrol models....I have offered to take it as it is.....no pricing yet.....ideas??

Oh, my!

These guns are pretty scarce--worth fixing. I believe only about 800 were produced in the commemorative version.

S&W can replace or repair the sideplate and refinish the barrel--you'll have a "shooter", but a really nice gun--a 5" .45 Colt.

I imagine a call to the the Service Department will get you a quote. I'd do this before you buy the gun.

Personally, I wouldn't like to spend more than $300 for it as is. I may cost all of that and more to get it repaired properly, and you still don't have a real "collectable" piece.

Good luck!

Just walk away...that gun has been so abused you'll spend way too much to rehabilitate it.

S&WIowegan is correct. Walk away. Even if the other person just gives you the gun outright, you are going to spend more money than it's worth repairing it just to have a shooter.

Got it for $349......couldn't help myself...it's not my fault.....i need help.
