Model 27-2, 4", Nickle

The SCSW says the 3.5" and the 5" were discontinued in 1979, the same year the 4" with red ramp and white outline rear was introduced. Target stocks became standard in 1980. The non P&R 27-3 began in 1982 and the nickle finish was discontinued in 1986. This tells me that this version was produced for only about 3 or 4 years, 1979 to 1982.

The gun I am looking at has the .400 grooved trigger and the .400 semi target hammer, with red ramp, wo rear, 4" nickle, 27-2, target stocks, and is about 95%. N709XXX, No box or papers. Stocks have 5-81 stamped on the inside. It is marked $495.00. How does that sound?

that is a good price unless it's beat all to pieces, I sold one about like for $700 in a split second, and that was almost 2 years ago.

Be that as it may I've found over the years of messing with 'em that of the dash 2, 4in, P&R 27's, the blue ones turn up way less often than the nickle ones. I suspect by then S&W had realized there was quite a market for big heavy shiney guns that people were buying as show pieces and they probably were turning out nickle way more than blue ones.

I also think despite what the "book" says that target handles become standard on the 27 long before 1980

they are both 98% + with the correct boxes.
