Hi, Guys. I lurk more than post, but I just got what I think is a really good buy on a 27-2, 6" nickle plated. It has S&W wood grips, with beautiful grain, but no checkering. They're completely smooth.

The gun is, well not NIB (there's powder rings on the face of the cylinder, and a very, very slight turn line, but is otherwise pristine. The serial number is N332XXX. It came with a wood presentation box (kinda beat up) with a screwdriver and mop, but no cleaning rod or papers. Got it for $549 and tax.

Any idea of it's birthday, and did I do good or get hosed?

I'll try and post some photos later, once I figure out how.

At least here in the Hoosier state that a real good price on an excellent gun. Ship date of 1975-76.

Thanks, Smith &W. This is probably the finest revolver I've ever owned.

Thanks, Davwingman! Yup, that's her. Gotta figure out how to do that for myself. I picked up a 66 no dash four inch before Christmas I'd like to show off.

I got the bestest wife in the world!

Man local shop has one on consignment looks almost new with original box and the asking price is $750 it has the checkered grips and is a '79 or '80 model. I first thought it was a nickel, but the more I looked at the gun the more it looks like a high polish stainless steel. I know there was only twon of those made and but no one knows what happened to them. The gun has a faint turn ring that is not noticable at first look and very tight action that is extreemly smooth with a very light DA and SA that is <3 pounds.

I would have snapped it up if it had been $600 range, but the $750 kind of set me back. That is more then I paid for my last new N frame.

Nice 27 @ a fair price. Ya done good! Now I need to find my first 27.....still looking.

Urethra! Uhhh...Ureaka! Uhhh, well, you know what I mean!

Want to thank everyone on this forum for the info and comments. Sorry for obsessing on my new toy, but I'm just so durn proud of it. The photo doesn't do her justice. She is really beautiful.

That's a neat gun. The smooth target stocks look great and the red ramp front sight is an interesting variation. Most 6" guns I've seen have a Patridge front sight. Good deal on your part.

Since the 4" was only 27-2 with the red insert according to "the book" I wonder if you picked up a one of a kind.

That thing is truly beautiful. When I think of S&W, that's pretty much the mental image I get. My very first gun (non-bb) was a Taurus copy of a Model 27, only cause I couldn't afford the Smith. How does she shoot?
