Hello all, I just took possession of my late grandfathers S&W model 27-2 and have a couple of questions such as when it was shipped and of course the million dollar question of how much is it worth?
The gun is chambered in 357 magnum and has a 6 inch barrel
The serial number is N 327xxx.
I am not positive but do not believe the gun has ever been shot and the only tool that appears to have been used is the screwdriver (the flat blade has a slight twist)
Thanks for any info you can provide

Thanks Gunar, it as well as the Remington 1100 I received from him won't be sold but I do want an idea of it's current value is

Based on the pics representing an essentially NIB example or at least 98% condition and my several year long search for a very clean M27-2, I would value it at $900- $1200. Some collectors might pay more. IMHO.

It's a good looking "package." Having all the nick-nacks will increase value considerably over a similar gun of equal condition but without those things. I would hazard a guess that gun would sell for in the area of $850 in my neck of the woods, but on the net you could probably do quite a bit better. But a moot point. Hang on to it. :)

IMO, for insurance purposes $1500 +.
Great looking family treasure. Keep it and pass it on to the next generation.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!
Another question, would Smith and Wesson still have a record of where the gun was shipped to?

I agree that real cash money on that gun would be right around $900, only that low as the 6" is the most common and least valuable of the bbl lengths.
The only way you will know where it shipped is to obtain a factory historical letter from S&W. This would only tell you what wholesale or retail shop it was sent to and the original configuration of the gun when shipped. Since you already know the later and the former is not really going to be very interesting, I would advise you to save the $50 and not bother.

On gunbroker $1200+-, to you its not a matter of money. Your grandfather left you an excellent example of what I think are the finest revolvers made the 27-2.

Is there a receipt for it in your Grandfather's stuff? That would tell you were he got it from and probably where S&W shipped it to, some people here are getting real fussy about ordering a letter from Mr. Jinks if there is no great mystery to start with.

Thanks again to everyone!
Unfortunately there is no receipt to be found.
There is a hand written price tag (see picture 3 in original post) with the model # and a price of $268.00 but it does not give the store info.

In that nice of condition with the box and all the goodies, it is easily a $1000 gun.

The barrel length isn't as sought after as some of the other variants as the 27-2, particularly the 3.5" barreled examples, but your example is a darn fine gun.

Your Grandfather had great taste.

If it truly is unfired, you have to decide if you are going to keep it that way, or put some Magnums thought it in his honor.

Out here in CA that would be a 1200-1500 dollar revolver. The stupid gun list keeps some perfectly fine guns from being brought into the state. Anyway a very nice revolver.

Topwop - welcome to the Forum!
Your GF's revolver is priceless.

FYI - I think most estimates given are low.
I think your gun would last 5 minutes in the classifieds if offered at $1300.
Thanks for sharing

Yeah, with prices lately on GB and the shape that revolver is in, I would say that $1000 is on the lower side. They have an ANIB 5" nickel 27-2 I've been watching for a few days on GB to see how high it goes for and it's already up to $1400 with over 11 days left to go on the auction. It's a 5" which sell more than the 6" generally, but the inside of your presentation box looks to be a tad better than the one on GB.

I'd say $ 1,350- $ 1,500 is about right, for today . The 27-2 is the best revolver Smith & Wesson ever offered and with Colt Pythons in simular condition in the $ 3,000 price range , the Premier Smith & Wesson offering is increasing in value as well . Like many have said "the 27 is the new Python" . The average guy is being priced out of the Python market ,
and where are they going ....To the Smith & Wesson 27-2.

As a footnote, their are 37 Smith & Wesson model 27s listed for sale
at this very moment on one of the biggest online guns for sale sites , not a single one is listed below $ 1,000 . Most are in the $ 1,300 + range . Are they selling ? I don't know . But I do know around here ,
IF you can find a nice one , it will be north of a grand .
