Is it common for the '70s & early '80s Model 27s to be sold with wood boxes? I have a 8 3/8" barrel 27-2 that was sold in a cardboard box and a 5" 27-2 & 6" 27-3 that each came with wood box's.

I think starting some time around 1975, S&W started selling all model 27's with the presentation cases. I have a 5" 27-2 that I bought in April 1974 and all it came with was the cardboard box. And I recently bought a 3 1/2" 27-2 of the same vintage (serial # very close to my 5" gun) and it originally came with just the cardboard box, but the person I bought it from sourced a presentation case to sell with it as a package so I have both with that gun. And I have a 4", 6" and a 8 3/8" 27-2's of around 1978-1980 vintage and they came with the presentation cases.

I also have several that came in wood presentation cases and several that came in the cardboard box... BTW - those two are real beauties!!!

I bought a NIB 8 3/8 model 27 in the presentation case back in 1975-76 from Temento's in Marrero. Paid the princely sum of $299 plus tax for it. Loved that gun more than anything. :D Sold it when I got married.......eh...

27-2's

I like my 27-2's with the presentation cases. I even have several of the cardboard shipping boxes.

Two very nice looking 27s JOBA.

That looks like all the barrel lengths nuguy. Am I looking at a 6 inch and a 6 1/2 inch. Nice collection.

Yes all 6 different blue barrel lengths, including the 6 and 6 1/2. Took awhile but they are amoung my favorites.
