Model 27 date of manufacture question

Could someone tell me approximately when a S&W pre-model 27 serial number 39,694 was manufactured?

That doesn't look like a serial number. The serial number is on the butt of the gun, it should start with an S or an N.

Hi,
With a serial number in the 39000 range it isn't a model 27. Make sure that the serial number you have given is on the butt of the revolver. If taken from other places it could b an assembly number. A 357 with that serial number predates world war ii and if 357 caliber would be a registered magnum or non registered magnum. Both of those would be considerably more valuable than a model 27. Look in the crane opening and see what it says there. If it has the letters reg and a number it is a registered magnum which is the holy grail gun of a lot of the members of this forum.

correct serial number

The correct number is S124416. The seller gave me the correct number over the phone. I called him back and go the correct one.
