Model 27 - something to be worried about?

I have a new Model 27 Classic Series and noticed the end of the ejector rod, the knurled section has rubbed a small section inside the upper portion of barrel shroud. Possibly by rotating, or under recoil/flex. The ejector rod is straight, the barrel is not over torqued and is perfectly straight. The gun functions perfectly.

Is there anything to be worried about here, is this something extremely out of the ordinary? I would have never noticed untill I got a flash light out haha.

Folks take photos magnifying some tiny speck 40X -- and it always looks bad. But if you just picked up the gun you'd never see it. Long ago I had a secretary (from the type writer days!) who said in regard to letters going out on Friday afternoons: "If you don't notice (anything wrong) from a galloping horse, it's fine."

Bftx, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your great life, in which you have time to complain of this slight problem.

Did you try to clean off that spot?
Well considering this is my first revolver, I bought it to commemorate my first son, not to mention it's not cheap... I thought I would bring it up. Yes, it does not wipe off.

It does seem a bit odd for that to be a contact point. My old 686 doesn't contact there. I don't have any other S&W revolvers with shrouds to compare.

By itself it doesn't seem like a big problem. There are plenty of other contact points that wear through the bluing with use.

Thanks fellas. Now I'm debating whether I want to send it in to S&W to repair this. It's a luck of a draw, you may get great service, or the gun may come back with a ding or two elsewhere. The gun functions perfectly.

bftx, welcome to the forums! :)

I wouldn't sweat that little bitty finish defect at all, since it's in the channel in the underlug that the extractor shaft runs in. I imagine that something such as that happened during barrel installation and not as contact with the extractor shaft. Just go to the range and enjoy your 27 and have a good time. The N frame 357s are my favorite by far of any 357 revolvers.

As to the snarky answering fools that will sometimes post their mostly worthless snarky answers to a legitimate question on a problem, there is a feature in your control panel called the ignore list. Feel free to put any and all fools that give you BS in your posts on that list and enjoy yourself here. And if their post is more like an attack, then use the triangle exclamation point icon at the top right of the offending post to report it to the forum staff and let them handle it. These forums are generally really nice to be on and the staff here will deal with troublemakers.

I think it's a shame that some folks seem to think that sarcastic, snarky answers to a legit question by a brand new member of the forums are the proper way to represent the members of this forum to the new person.

OMG! she works in my office now. And just as careless as ever.

Mom, is that you?

Old thread. The gun has already been back to S&W for a few other things, S&W treated me right and got it back to me within 15 weeks.
