What is the most sought after Model 27 barrel length?
Personally, I like a 4 inch barrel in this size gun.
But what am I missing?
This wouldn't be a carry piece. Would likely be a safe
queen, out occasionally for target practice. I'm more of
a collector than a shooter, truth be told. N frames are a
hole in my collection.

Easily the 3-1/2" barrel is the most "sought" after in terms of demand and price. However, if I recall the 4" and 6-1/2" are the most scarce barrel lengths. As a shooter the 5" barrel appears to be the best balanced of the bunch but a 4" is very nice too. So as you can tell by this post you really need one of each and can decide for yourself! Haha good luck

The 3 1/2" is probably the most in demand, but personally I prefer the 5" for shooting. Pretty hard to beat for balance in the hand.

The 3.5" guns go for the highest money, even though the 4" guns were much rarer.

I had a 4" nickel 27-2 that I traded away.

If I were to get another 27 I would grab a 5" or a 6".

I've shown these two pre-27's before: 1950 factory nickel
with 3 1/2 inch barrel and aged ivory grips; and a 1957 pre-
27 with factory special order 4 inch barrel. Both have letters.

I need to find an early 5 inch and 6 1/2 inch barreled pre-
27 down the road.

During the 1980's -1990's ( New England area ) it was the 5 inch barrel ,thanks to being Skeeter favorites gun.the 3.5 inchers sat on the shelves for a while, and were out sold by the four inch versions. Now its all about the 3.5 inch length again.

I agree that 3.5 inch is the most popular barrel length these days but if I was going to buy a Model 27-2 it would be a 5 inch because I like the balance of it the best.

3.5" is "the" one. Even so, if you ask my favorite, I would say 5". I cannot prove that. I have had three and sold each one. I still have a 3.5".

The five is a sweet one to shoot. As an old LEO, they are ever so much a silly inch too long to carry.

Best wishes,

Jack

Hmmm? More of a collector than a shooter. Good info on here about what's popular right now.
Scarce....it's the 27-2 4 inch.
Good Luck.
