model 28-2 new in box...but not really

Last fall, I bought a 4" M58 from a guy here locally (Texas). It was basically "N.I.B". It had no turn ring or any evidence of surface distress. He sold it to me for $550. The one you bought may be a little too high, but it is the ballpark.
The M58 is sort of a freak. Most people do not like it because of the caliber and scarcity of ammo, but there is an avid group of people that love them.

After shooting mine with factory loads, I am sort of on the fence. I love the way it feels in my hand, but the recoil is something else. I reload, so I detune my reloads to make the gun more bearable.
That being said, my favorite S&W is the 4" M29. I detune my reloads to something akin to the .44 Special and have a ball.

Hope you have fun with your new M58.

I have a Minty 4" 629 (No Dash) that is very lightly used. I just got a box of .44 spcl yesterday and I am itching to try it out.

The Model 58 seems like it would be a bear.

How is the 29/629 with Factory Magnum loads? I have a box of them as well, but is it a handful with wooden Target Stocks and a 4" barrel? I'll find out soon enough.

Strange there is no pictures of the box and tools and literature. Usually an important part of the pictures and description. The pictures listed either have some glare that look like the blueing is thin on the end or the barrel or maybe it is just the pictures. At any rate it is a fine looking gun.

just talked to him. it was a mistake, as many of you though. the gun was listed wrong and is indeed used. he took full responsibility and offered to ship for free, waive the cc fee he wanted, and give me a 5 day inspection period. he says the bore and lockup are in excellent condition and that he fired it himself and it fires perfectly and the timing is good. i told him id take it.

from what ive seen others going for on gunbroker i feel i got a nice shooter for a pretty good price.

once i get it and take it to the range i'll post some pics and some more info.

thanks again for everyone's input.

I'd say you did alright. You'll feel a lot better now than if the gun had just shown up as a used gun. I think the muzzle wear is glare. Looks to be in pretty good shape.

Enjoy the new gun.

Sounds to me like a guy that just made a mistake and he wants to make up for it. Any way you slice it, you come out ahead on this one.
