I picked up a nice 28-2, 4 inch, marked NYSP.... I found some references on the web about The New York State police placing a big order for these some years ago.... That article said that they had a red insert in the front sight and the Serial range was in the "N 545xxx" range...
Mine serial number is N589xxx and doesn't have the red insert, but has the wide smooth trigger, and Pachmayr's that the NYSP armorers reportedly put on them.... Does anybody know about these NYSP Highway Patrolmen that don't have the Red sight insert... Were they purchased directly from S&W or some supplier?
