I was "PAWN SHOPPING" today, and came across a model 28-2 Highway Patrolman. None of my books show this model with a 2 3/4' barrel, but this one has just that. It has a T hammer, T trigger, Pinned and recessed, Red ramp front sight, white outline adjustable rear sight. It has those "DUMB" Pachmayer grips and it is a good 99% with very light cyl. ring. SN N5457XX.

Can anyone tell me more about this nice revolver??? It's my first "N" frame. What is the D.O.B.???

They never made such a gun. I'll bet a dollar it's a 4" if you measure it from the muzzle all the way to the face of the cylinder.
From the muzzle to the front of the frame all my 28's measure 2 3/4"-2 7/8".

mh9 - Highway patrolman's never had shorter than a 4" barrel.
Are you measuring from the face of the cylinder?

I was going to cut one to 3.5 and it would have been close to the underlug............
Unless your ejector rod is hanging in the wind, I'm not sure how this is possible.
I'm happy for you regardless, but lets see some pics!

Soory Boys, this one is marked 28-2... has 2 3/4 barrel from cylinder front to muzzle, ha a full shroud and does not appear to be cut down,It has no markings on the barrel. do you think it was cut down???

You have a very rare gun there. I heard that they only made three of those. It's worth big bucks.

I pulled the grips. It is a round butt, and has E 11 stamped on the left side and a triangle with a J inside of it, and a S inside a circle.

Well boys, if it has been cut down, it is a very professional job. I love it and will use it for my carry gun."YEEEEHHAAAAA".

Hell, I can't even buy a S&W gun with a whole barrel. How am I supposed to know how to do pics on this forum. Thanks for your input. I am off to the range to shoot my "MODIFIED" gun.....

They never made a 28-2 with a round butt either.

This is kinda like Friday nite at the Dragstrip and you aint racing and you aint opening your hood and we're all "Boys"

Well, I guess I don't have a model 28-2. It has a 2-3/4 inch barrel, which don't exist, it has a round butt which don't exist, yet it is a S&W and is marked 28-2. How about the serial number does it exist???N545760. Boy, talk about modified. It has to be cut down. The extractor rod is held in by a spring loaded lug in the shroud that plugs into a slot on the face of the yoke. It has been done very professionally.
But, even with a 6 " barrel, if it was cut down to 2 3/4, some of the barrel stamping would show. It doesn"t.

Sir, this sounds similar to how the Jovino Model 25 "Effectors" were done. These techniques were not exclusive to Jovino, though, so it's hard to know for sure who did the work.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
