My computer isn't working right apparently, because your latest post with the pics of your 28 isn't appearing yet. Please repost it because I can't wait to see the photos either.

No your computer is working fine .... my fingers are malfunctioning badly tho. Trying again in a minute.

Redsfan........My pistol is the twin of yours. Click on S&W 28-2 update on this forum for the pic. I have had many offers for this gun.I think we have someyhing special.

Do a search on this forum for "Jovino" or "Effector" model. The John Jovino gun shop in NYC specialized in chopping down S&W revolvers - mostly .45 caliber revolvers - into snubbies for police officers in the 70's. They trademarked the name "Effector" for some of these guns.

Here's my "non-existent" Model 25-2 .45ACP Snubby, courtesy of John Jovino and subsequent owners.

A close look should show the hammer has more of a "teardrop" shape (Jovino) and the trigger has been ground smooth (serations removed). The cylinder yoke has had a spring-loaded ball added with a detent in the frame to replace the missing front locking lug. The grip frame was reshaped to a RB K-frame size (or Ruger Security Six size, depending on year).

Yours is the first Model 28 I've seen done in this manner. It may not have been done by Jovino, but it sure looks like it. Value? Don't ask. What someone is willing to pay for it I suppose, which could be considerable to someone looking for unusual M28's or collecting Jovino custom guns.

I read both of your posts with great interest. Like I said .. I could understnd your frustration. I got it too when I was trying to figure out what I had bought.

Yours is the only other one exactly like mine that I've seen ... or heard of.

Mine is a 28-2 just like yours. There are no marks on the left side of the frame, but on the right side there is a triangle that is rounded off with an A in the middle, and a circle with an N in the center. There is also a number ..41728 and an F3. At another spot is and F and at the top of the letter, upside down is a 16.
Our guns are so alike that I think it makes sense that they came out of the same shop ... or one that was doing the same type of work.

As for shooting, mine has a kick and its a tad to the loud side too. I wear ear plugs. I've been shooting mine at 15 - 20 yards with .. decent results. The more I shoot it, the better its getting. Love the way it shoots. It has the lightest trigger pull of anything I've ever shot.

If it is a Jorvino .. thats great. If not .. I'm good with that too. I carry my model 36 during warm weather, and now that its colder, my 28 is my constant companion.

Email me anytime if you want to do a little more back and forth.

Thanks for the info and the picture of yours. Thats a really good looking gun too.
You're right about the trigger it is smooth. Hadn't occurred to me that it wasn't supposed to be. I will do the search on Jovino .. this is the first I've heard of it. I live in western NY, so it wouldn't have had to travel too far from NYC.

OH BY THE WAY.......Price was $369.63 out the door.

You're happy and that is all that counts. If I did not already have a Model 27 with 3 1/2 inch barrel and ran across a deal like you did, I'd have snapped it up as well. It some ways I would have enjoyed it more. I take special care every time I take my 27 to the range because it's so valuable. On the other hand, I had an old Model 28 that needed a reblue but was a fine shooter and I did not worry too much about it getting dinged or scratched during good, honest use. Besides, everybody should have at least one "one-of-a-kind" revolver. Now you have yours.

Enjoy that piece. Ya done good.

Hey redsfan................Yea, my gun has all of the ammenities mentioned. I have a triangle with a letter "J" in it. It has a circle with a letter "S" in it,and a number 5543 on the right side of the grip frame. On the left side, it has the number39869 which is an assembly number and it is repeated on the yoke.It also is stamped E1 on that side. Although it is an "N" frame gun, the grip frame has been altered to accept the round "K" frame grips. mine are Pachmeyers.

Excellent pictures. I've never seen a M28 modified in such a way. Nifty.
