I originally posted this in the 1980 to the present because I had bought them after 1980.
I have finished redoing a pinned and recessed nickel Model 29 and I am working on a Model 28.
These are guns from my collection that were in Hurricane Katrina, the barrels were bad and I have replacements.
I finished the Model 29 and for insurance purposes or for sale at a later date I am curious about what value to put on them.
They are not collectible but they are shooters.
I have seen prices all over the place, so would 60% of retail be reasonable?

"Re-do"??
Did you send away for re polish and reblue?
I think it depends who it went to.
Smith, Ford or Turnbull would keep value higher from what I've heard but I haven't actually studied this.
I'd love to see some before and after photos.
For me, the shooters are also collectibles. ANIB, beaters, refinished all have their place in a collection, especially when they don't make them anymore like they used to.

I disassembled and soaked in Evap O Rust, then I removed and replaced the barrels and rear sights.
The 6" nickel 29-2 has some ugly spots and the 28 has a grey color similar to parkerizing. Wanted to make them shooters and I may do a home brew matte black finish on the 28 in the future.
My 36-6 is going to be next. It was brand new in the box and thankfully the bore is good! Outside is not pretty but again it's going to be a shooter!
