Model 28 madness

I've always had a soft spot for the Model 28 - a true "service" revolver. Glad to see someone keeping them together in such a nice collection. Thanks for the post & pictures.

Most excellent - with that group of shootin' irons, you could outfit a whole Troop of Highway Patrolmen; and they would be well armed!

Very nice collection! It looks like you have representatives of all the eras and the common barrel lengths. Now you need a factory nickel gun and an 8 3/8"!

I don't believe the Model 28 came in any barrel length other than 4 and 6 and any metal finish other than low luster blue.

You could get all the fancy stuff and options on the Model 27, but the 28 was a plain jane duty weapon.

A10 is correct - there are RARE versions of both that he describes (nickel and long tube)
There was just recently a long tube pictured in another thread.

I completely forgot about those 5 inchers Wiregrass! Thanks for reminding me. I'd love to see one one of these days. I have an ultra rare 3 1/2" version (of course I had to put the barrel on myself:D).

My house was robbed in 1992 and my model 28 was stolen along with my model 39. About 2 years after the theft, I go a call from the Harbor police and they had stopped an automobile for a traffic violation and recovered my 28 from the driver. It is now locked up in a safe when I'm not around to protect it..

Could you guys post some close-up pictures of the rear sight on the N serial gun looking down on the sight. I reciently bought a 4" gun that had a red dot on it and I have to get an original sight. Need to know if they had the grooves most N frames have? some pictures looking down on the sight would be greatly appreciated.

Nice 28's. I was just going to ask on a post if anyone collects the different barrel lengths. Your pics says it all. I been buying the 4", the 6" and the 6 1/2" barreled S&W N frames so far.
