Model 28 question

I just looked at a model 28, 4" barrel at a local gun shop. There is barely a turn line, and 1 of the owners said he thought it was unfired. $495 is the price.
My question is the grips are too big for my hand. It has targets on it. I use targets on K Frames, but can't use these. What could these targets be replaced with to fit me? It is beautiful, and don't really want to turn it down. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Bob

I would buy it in a heartbeat, price is right. It probably came from the factory with magna grips which almost all did in 4".

And it seems that early diamond targets are somewhat smaller than later targets. The ones on my 5-screw pre-28 and the smooths on my 27 are noticeably smaller and more comfortable than the ones that came on my later N-frames.

+1 on what the above posters said and you can get magna grips for it or Ahrends that are slimmer then the S&W target grips.

I like the others would buy that 28 at that price in that condition. You can always get the right stocks, getting the gun is the hard part.

BUY THE GUN!

With all the folks on this forum, buy the gun, and I'll bet you will have someone ready to buy your targets or do some horse trading to get you what you need in less than 24 hours. The Library of Congress has nothing on the S&W forum! This, without a doubt, is the most diverse, resourceful group of folks that I know of! Also, Merry Christmas! Is this what you are looking at, minus the target trigger and hammer?

Very good price. I would get it. As far as the grips go, you can take those grips off it and put them away. Keep them so that if you ever decide to sell it, you can put them back on. For shooting purposes, there are many grips out there that would fit that gun. I have a Pachmayer grip that I put on mine when I take it to the range for a blasting session.

When you are shooting, comfort is more important than looks. Put fancy original wood grips back on it after your range sessions and after cleaning it up!

Wheelgunner, I have extra grips that I switch around on my K frames. N's are a new thing to me. Holding this gun with the targets yhat are on it crams my middle finger into the back of the trigger guard. I know from experience what happens next! Thanks for the insight! Bob

It was my duty weapon back in the 80's. I also shot competition with it for 2 years. So it has had a few down the pipe. Enjoy the 28 !!
