I have a smith and wesson model 28 "highway patrolman" with an 4in barrel and
serial# s235808 what can you tell me about it? I would also like to know the value!
Welcome to the Forum.
It was made in 1964 according to the Catalog.
The M28 Highway Patrolman is a very sought after revolver. It is the plainer version of the M27, which has a nicer finish and fine checkering on the topstrap. They are bull strong and great shooters.
The 4" one is usually more valuable than the 6" model. Yours would be a M28-2, which was the last dash series to be pinned and recessed, which is good.
If it's in good shape it's worth at least $400. In some parts of the country they will go for $500 to $600. I have two 4" M28-2s and I have $400 in one and about $425 in the other, and feel fortunate.
If you have the box and documents that came in it, and the serial number matches on the stocks, you can add a bit more to the value.
We'd like to see a picture.

They are going cheap inyour area…..sold a ANIB, 6" to a dealer at a local gun show a couple months ago for $675.00…….listed on this forum for $700.00 and got no bites……I've got a ANIB 4" that price wouldn't touch…
