Model 29-2 Threaded Adjustable Trigger Stop

I recently purchased a Model 29-2 Serial # N6304XX with a 6" barrel on auction.There is a screw in adjustable trigger stip in the target trigger. I have read that S&W went a Little "trigger stop crazy" around 1979- 1981 but what I read suggested these were internal. Anyone know if S&W offered the type I described.

I've seen that after-market modification on many guns, but have never seen that offered by the S&W factory.

I have one just like yours on my 29-2. Mine was installed by Ron Power. I’ve never seen one like that from the factory.

A lady brought in a Performance Center slab-side snubby 44 mag this weekend, just to show it to me. It had that type of over travel stop (and the lock). I found it in SCSW for her...forget the model, but, as I remember it was from around 1999/2000. She said it was very pleasant to shoot . She is retired LE and she knows shooting, so I believe her.

Un-fluted cylinder and PC logo on left side, Maybe a 629 Defensive Revolver.

That's a modification of a factory trigger, something not offered as an option by S&W.

Roger that. I know I was comparing apples to oranges. A PC 629 is a long way from a 29-2. In any case, the trigger mounted stop is a whole lot easier to adjust properly than the old frame mounted stop S&W had.

That is a really easy modification and I have never thought to do one to a pistol before. I have several revolvers which have a lot of over-travel but I also believe that such a mod is unnecessary on a hunting gun or one used for SD.

What about the little rod that's included inside the trigger rebound spring inside the trigger rebound slide? Not a trigger stop, not used on the Mod 29s, not factory, or what do you know about it?

Jim...I do not know what part you are referring to, but part number 5114 is the cylinder stop. If you look at the Parts & Instruction sheet for a Model 29, you will see this part is not listed. However, it is listed for the Model 14 and 19 (those are the only Parts & Instruction sheets I had to look at that list a cylinder stop).

Early Bangor Punta mod 29 Inst sheet has #5306 as "trigger stop rod"
Later Bangor Punta mod 29 Inst sheet has #79 as "trigger stop rod"
This is a rod inside the trigger rebound slide spring!

The rod that's inside the rebound spring is too short to do any good. In order for that to work, the rod has to be accurately fitted to the individual mechanism, and hold a tolerance of about + or - .002. They do not hand fit those because it's a time consuming, finicky process.

You can do your own, but you will have to start with a longer piece of material and work it down. I have found that sometimes they bend the pin that holds the rebound spring in.

I agree the rod is called a trigger stop on N-frames, but I was addressing the visible trigger stop seen on K-frames and the type shown in the original
post.
