The Model 29-2 you have is outside the range of the records I have access to. You would have to letter the revolver to find out what barrel length it originally shipped with.

Contact S&W. They can use the serial number on the butt of the grip to determine all the specifications it possessed when it left the factory. Thanks for the information there was a loose barrel in the collection Any chance you can figure out what barrel came with that 29-2 and I also had several sets of stocks from that collection.
I recently acquired a model 29-2 Smith & Wesson with 5 inch barrel length gun is in very good condition with minimal signs of wear i was wondering where to find information on values there's not much out there that I can find on a model 29-2 with a 5 inch barrel I am new to the Smith and Wesson family and would appreciate any information.[/QUOTE
Frank, pay for the "letter" it appears like you got a Big Dollar revolver. Please don't do any thing silly,!!! until you know for sure what ya got.
Happy Labor day All.
I have a S&W Model 29 in 5 inch nickel, with a 2 page certification letter on "Office of Smith & Wesson" official stationery, dated February 3, 1997, signed by Roy G. Jinks, Historian with his embossing seal over his signature in blue ink.
Their records show that my revolver SN S17xxxx, was shipped with a 5 inch barrel and in nickel finish from the S&W factory on June 3, 1959, and delivered to Rex Firearms Co., New York City.
In February 1997, Mr Jinks valued my 5 inch at $1,500.00
