Model 29-2 with 5 inch barrel Information

Thanks for the information there was a loose barrel in the collection Any chance you can figure out what barrel came with that 29-2 and I also had several sets of stocks from that collection.
Contact S&W. They can use the serial number on the butt of the grip to determine all the specifications it possessed when it left the factory.

Certified S&W Model 29 Nickel 5 Inch Barrel

I have a S&W Model 29 in 5 inch nickel, with a 2 page certification letter on "Office of Smith & Wesson" official stationery, dated February 3, 1997, signed by Roy G. Jinks, Historian with his embossing seal over his signature in blue ink.

Their records show that my revolver SN S17xxxx, was shipped with a 5 inch barrel and in nickel finish from the S&W factory on June 3, 1959, and delivered to Rex Firearms Co., New York City.

In February 1997, Mr Jinks valued my 5 inch at $1,500.00

Frank, pay for the "letter" it appears like you got a Big Dollar revolver. Please don't do any thing silly,!!! until you know for sure what ya got.
Happy Labor day All.

Frank last posted about this gun in early 2023, with no mention if he got the letter to find out the original barrel length. He last posted about another gun about two months ago, feel free to PM him with your question. :)

Welcome! A nice find and definitely worth more than the quote from 27 years ago!

Please feel free to post in New Member Introductions. And we like photos, by the way. :)

It's a moot point now that Doc has spoken, but while I don't know diddly about model number guns, I do know about Herbie Harris (H.H. Harris Co.--Chicago distributor and retailer), who had a thing about guns bearing non-cataloged features. The bottom line is anytime you come across a gun from the 50's on into the early 70's (??) that "ain't right", it may very well have come via Herbie Harris-----and be pretty neat!

It is 100% a 5" S&W barrel just not original to that Model 29-2, I have been around this particular Model 29-2 since 1989
The barrel was one of 2 produced for European distributor that never fulfilled the contract in the mid 70s, if I remember the story correctly both barrels were at one time owned by Wayne Hazelrigg of Barry IL.
