Picked up a nice 5" mod 29-4 today.
Can't find much info on it.
Is the 5" rare?

You will get more info in the post 1980 forum. I wouldn't call them rear, but you don't see them come up for sale every day either. Very nice revolvers!
 
Congratulations! I still don't have a .44 Magnum! I go back & forth whether I need 1 or not. Have my .45's though. Post some pictures, so we can drool over it! Bob

That certainly sounds like the limited edition one made for Hill Country Dis. in Texas. And as mentioned above, as few as 500 made.
I never could find one so I made my own years ago when the parts were still available from S&W. It is a well balanced and very accurate .44. One of my favorites.
