Model 29-4 spring Kit

I bought a Wilson Combat Custom Tune spring kit for my 29-4 S&W.When I tried to install the hammer spring it was about 1/4" to short. When I called them they said there was only one kit that fits K, L, N frames #178 and that is what I have. My gunshop man says the new N frames are different and take a different hammer spring. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks.

All post-war K, L, and N-frame S&W revolvers use the same springs, including the hammer/main-spring. Modern K/L/N-frame S&W revolvers with the MIM lockwork also use the same springs.

Does the un-curved length (the length of the spring if it wasn't curved) of the Wilson spring match that of the stock spring? It should match.

The wilson kits fit, I just installed 4 in my 29's and 629's in the past few days. It looks short due to the bend at the tip just prior to the little fingers that latch onto the mainspring stirrup.

You need to back out the mainspring screw all the way, engage the top of mainspring to the stirrup and rotate it all the way down, once you do it will lock into the notch in the frame.

You both are very right. I took the sideplate off and then I could see what I was doing and the spring fit just fine. I put the 14# rebound spring in also and it feels like a different gun. I will try it out at the range to be sure it fires properly.Thanks for your help it really came in handy.

I used the 12# rebound in all of mine and they shoot well, no issues. Really slick action now...close your eyes and you would think its a python with a trigger job.
