I recently picked up a Model 29-8 with serial number CFT 25**. I cannot find any information on this thing. Does anybody have information on production year and value? I find all sorts of info on the older models and the 29-10 classic but nothing on this one. Thanks for the help.

I think I finally found it. Still would like any info on what it's worth. It doesn't have the original grips or anything else it comes with from the factory. Excellent condition. You can hardly tell it has been fired.

In 2007 (I think) I saw a 29-8 Mountain Gun at H&H Guns in Oklahoma City for $650 and pounced. I think it was a good decision.

It's is a fine-looking gun, especially with the "Mountain Gun" grips.
It's performance is the same as any S&W 29 so you can't go wrong there.

A few years later I saw one for sale at $770. Lately on Gunsamerica, GunBroker, etc. asking prices seem to be around $1000, but the guns seem to be few and far between.

Frankly, it's lower on my list as a field gun because I believe my 629 Mountain Gun is probably more resistant to weather. I hand load for both (all my 29-series guns), generally working up loads I got from John Taffin to fire 240-gr bullets at about 900 - 1,000 fps from the 4" barrels.

I don't buy to resell, or stock a museum. I shoot 'em or I dump 'em. The 29-8 is a keeper.

Yeah I'm not a collector. I buy them to shoot as well. I picked this one up for $600 and felt pretty good about it. Started looking at the model number a little more and realized it might be more of a rare one. I would just as soon it not be anything special so I can take it out and shoot the piss out of it. I don't know how many of these "Dirty Harry Special Editions" they made. But if it happens to be something special I'd say the lack of the original grips and everything else isn't going to help with value.

I picked up a 29-8 with 4" barrel today. Excellent condition.
Nice revolver. I was wondering what the manufacturer date was, 2007 sounds good.

About 10 years ago I ran across a 29-8 MG for $399 at the LGS. Came with a box of shells minus 6. It is one of my favorites, very accurate. This one is also a 4 screw.

I would not hesitate on another 29-8.
