I think in the end you eat it.

My guess is on an obstruction in the barrel.

I only use Winchester, Federal or Buffalo Bore ammo. Frankly it's an issue of trust for me. Right or wrong.

Re: OP. Read the entire thread. Very glad to read that S&W found the cause of the failure and that they will be replacing your ruined revolver. Have had over 30 years of very happy experience w/ a variety of common and sometimes not so common S&W revolvers. Wish you many years of the same experiences. Sincerely. bruce.

Why worry about them? Your problem was obviously not an ammunition issue. I always take note of "coincidences" like Many mentions, but when all is said and done, lacking any proof that the ammunition caused the failures, they are still just coincidences.

You could weigh each of your remaining Fiocchi rounds on a digital scale just to do a quick check and make yourself feel better but I don't see any particular reason to be concerned.

I'm glad you got your problem straightened out and hope you get your new .44 soon.

Going back over your other posts, you posted a "New to handguns",(http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/449225-choosing-store-bought-revolver.html and now this one)in October in 2015 and you further stated it was a .44 S&W? Pretty large purchase for someone new to handguns? I would suggest you go to something in the .22LR range before going any further? Pardon me but, just how much experience do you have with these big boomers?

First, let me say, I'm very pleased S&W and you have come to an amicable end on this. My first post on this thread was taken by most as a "dis" of you and that's far from the origin of my intent. Seems there is now a lot of members that just want to jump on others. I've been a member here for over 10 years but, lately some cause me to avoid this forum(not the friendly place it once was).

Glad this had a positive outcome. Since S&W found the problem, why worry about the ammo? So a lot of people (who were guessing) thought the ammo might be at fault. So what? It wasn't. S&W gave you the facts. The rest is opinion and as we learned in grade school, everybody has one.

There is defective ammo out there.
There are defective firearms out there.
There are careless and ill-trained people out there, and Murphy is still in business.
So "stuff" happens.

You were inconvenienced, not harmed. I am thankful for you. Shoot and be happy.

Sorry to hear about your mishap! This is what it sounds like might have happened. You might have come across some bad ammo, which might have sounded like your shot went through, but the bullet actually stayed in your barrel, and when you fired again, hell broke loose. You should check the last box of ammo, that might have very well been the issue.
