Model 29 no dash 6 1/2''

Yesterday I visited one of my favorite area gun shops. On display is one of the finest M29's I've ever seen. It appears as if it could have come from a time capsule. Truely, a flawless museum grade piece. It comes with an LOA and a presentation case that is still wrapped in foam. I asked the owner if it was dark blue or wood and he stated, wood. Serial number is S2005xx. Would that be a correct case for that time period? Is the lack of an original blue two-piece box a serious distraction with a package price of $3200. Either the blue/black pre-29 type case or the later clamshell in the wooden case can be correct depending on when shipped. That price might be a little high but maybe not much. The last couple I've seen for sale were in the $2600-$2800 range but perhaps were not of the condition of the one you saw.

Here's mine (S185134) in the blue/black case and a picture of a later one (SN not known) recently for sale here on the Forum, in the clamshell.

Doesn't it say in the letter what case it shipped with?

With a gun and case in that prime original condition, they don't come up often enough and collectors will definitely pay a premium. Maybe make an offer but I certainly wouldn't let a few hundred dollars stop me if you're planning on keeping it. The price we pay fades as the pride of ownership shines.

The mahogany presentation case with a "clamshell" interior was introduced in the spring of 1960. Assuming your Model 29 shipped in May 1960 or later, the clamshell presentation case is correct.

I'm probably very wrong but the original pic looks more like an 8 3/8 long tube to me. Regardless, sweet looking magnum. Go for it...

I did not ask them to take the gun out of the display case. The gun store owner and his wife were very busy with paperwork and their grandson was assisting other customers. I knew I didn't have the time or resources to buy it yesterday, so I didn't want to waste their time for me to just drool over it. I'm fairly certain that unless someone with deep pockets and great appreciation shows up it will be there for a while. I will return to inspect it, the presentation case and its contents, and of course the letter. I could not see where or when it shipped but I could see it was 1 of 10 in the shipment.

I've never seen a ND sitting on a shelf in a gun store. I lucked out on mine through a friend of a friend. Personally, I couldn't afford that price, pretty steep, but when opportunity knocks!?!
