Model 29 Serial Number

I have a Model 29 with the Serial Number CAD 09987. Can't find info on the exact year. I know its older than 1995. I bought the Smith catalog and it didn't designate CAD for any 29.

Welcome to the Forum from a fellow Iowan.
The Catalog says BRF was in 1994 and CAM in 1996. I guess we need to assume it is between those years.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured, didn't know if it was worth going deeper. I bought it new in 1995, but after I couldn't find the CAD in the book I wondered if I lucked out and got a custom or the like.

The three letter prefix part of the serial numbers are not being used consecutively. So you can't insert later prefixes between two known earlier prefixes to guess a ship date.

It struck me as odd that the Smith catalog didn't list the particular prefix leading me to contemplate the possibility of a custom or limited edition. It's 29-6 8 3/8 with presentation case.
