model 30-1 what can you tell me

Its model 30-1 made about 1969-70. Definitely not a factory finish. It appears to have been bead blasted and I'm gonna guess the finish is electroless nickle. Possibly Robar? Which was quite popular around that time.

What surprises me is all the stamping's are so nice and crisp. It would lead me to think this was done when the gun was fairly new, and the original finish wasn't that bad. Makes a nice looking piece and it probably wears like iron.

I just picked it up in trade from a guy and I am in it kind of deep. About $400 bucks but it came with 200 rnds of ammo so maybe I am not as bad off as I originally was thinking??

The guy said he had it for years and years, never shot it, and was not the original owner. I asked did that mean over 20 or 30 or just multiple years and he never really answered.

First thing I noticed was the lack of any "N" stamp so I assumed it wasn't factory but was thinking maybe SS, he said "Maybe so I am not sure" but thinking back he had to know more about it than he let on?? And I confirmed later that the mod 30 was never offered in SS (Should have looked that up first, I know)

He also said that he thought it must be a Commemorative edition because of the gold hammer and trigger but I didn't think so.

In the end I like the gun, and added another model to the collection that I never had before so I am happy.

Looking strictly at GB prices I think I am OK on it but I didn't really get it for resale either so I guess that really doesn't matter, but you never want to make a bad trade either..

BTW, I traded a home brew AR15 that I built out of new but spare/take off parts. Lower rec was 40 bucks. Parts kit was 50. Upper was 200. Everything else was new take-off spare parts I have had for a long time. Some of which I would NEVER had used myself and would be hard pressed to get any money for if I tried to sell individually. That's where I get the $400 from.

.32 Long ammo is probably around $27 per 50 round box, so that's about $100+ off the price of the gun. $300 for a 2" 30-1 (even with an aftermarket finish) isn't bad. The Gold trigger & hammer are a little over the top but the finish should hold up well as a carry piece.

The finish looks a lot like this Metaloy finish I had put on this 19-4 a few years ago.

I like the .32 S&W Long when itis loaded to it's proper potential. If you want to use it as a carry piece, Buffalo Bore has the ammunition that will serve you well.

Look it up
