I didn’t see any topics on the vintage 3000 shotguns. I know they made longer barrels but I’m not sure about different gauges.

Mine is an 18 inch barrel, 12G from a retired police Sgt I worked with. He was the last in the dept to carry a S&W. I was never allowed to carry it as the Rangemaster phase them with the Sgt retiring. Plus I have a Rem 870 that’s outfitted like a Scattergun Technologies patrol gun.

Recall them years back. Like the fact they had a steel receiver and not aluminum.

I picked up a police trade-in 3000 couple years ago at a local police supply store. It has an 18" police cylinder barrel and Davis Speed-Feed stock.

My department used the model with the Speed Feed Stocks in the late 80’s or early 90’s. Never had a problem with them. They were good, reliable shotguns.

I recall shooting one a long time ago. They look a lot like an 870. Is furniture interchangeable?

My agency bought some of those in the ‘80’s and they were beautifully made and actually an improvement to the Remington 870P.

I've got two model 3000's. Mine are actually Mossberg-branded...they took over importation for Howa for a year or two after S&W dropped them in the late 80's.

The stocks are the only thing I've found that will interchange with my 870.

There's a local pawn shop that has an 18" polished blue S&W 3000 with factory folding stock in very nice condition for $400. I need another 12g. defensive shotgun like I need another hole in the head...but I may talk myself into it eventually.

I still have the one I bought new in 1984. It has a 28”bbl and choke tubes. Very nice fit and finish. 100% reliable.

The S&W 3000 shotguns as mentioned were made by Howa/Japan and metric based which would rule out parts interchangeability with the Remington 870 unless modified. Unless abused and neglected the M-3000 has a good reputation for reliability, you have to dig a little to find parts but they are out there, also the M-3000 pretty much matched the 870 for accessories both factory and aftermarket.

S&W M-3000

SteveJ if you check GB and Ebay I'v seen the M-3000 12ga 20" barrels with rifle sights listed.

I had an 18" riot with parkerized finish and walnut furniture in the 80s. Wish I had kept it, very solid gun, improved 870 design. Howa quality was excellent.
