I just picked up a 34-1 flat latch that is in real good condition but does not have the diamond magnas. It does have SandW magnas that would have come on a 68 and later model. I asked the seller if he had them laying in a drawer somewhere. He said that is just how he got it and I knew more about it than he did. What drew me to it was that it is a square butt. I see plenty of birds foot but not square online in the snubnose. Curious as to why they are gone. They really don't sell for much. Anyway, It came with a box(not numbered to the gun) and tools. How much does the grips affect value on this gun? I gave 575 for it and am proud to own it. 22's seem to be escalating in value but I might have bought at the top. Yall's thoughts are appreciated.

A nice set of square butt diamond Magna stocks will run from $65 to $100. At least they do here in the Kansas City area.

Give us the serial number, you can xxx out the last couple if you wish, and we can help you better on the grips. A pic would help also.

I know i can get some diamonds but they still would not be numbered to the gun. I know if it had correct grips I would more likely pay a lot more looking at gunbroker prices. Just curious to what yall think.

Yes, given a choice most of us would like to have the stocks numbered to the gun. However, as long as they're correct period the impact to value is not usually great. I'll pay about the same whether stocks are numbered to the gun or not if it is a gun without box/papers and one I intend to shoot. Since you don't have the original box, the lack of original stocks wouldn't bother me much. Enjoy.

I agree with Jeff. It isn't that big a deal.

You are correct that this one came with diamond stocks. The flat latch puts it no later than 1966 and the serial number suggests no later than 1964. So find some square butt J frame diamonds if you wish and put them on it. Or just leave it as it is. Nothing really wrong with the stocks that are on it. The price you paid was okay for what you got. :)

You haven't said the grips aren't serial numbered to match the gun. Have you checked the back side of the right side grip yet?

I knew the grips were wrong before I made the trip to purchase the gun by the pictures that were posted of it. I got it home, took the grips off and did some cleaning and as I expected, the number is for another gun. The grips that are on it are in very good condition so I may buy some diamonds and sell the ones that are on it and not be much difference in money. Part of the fun of the hobby. I paid up for this gun for 2 reasons 1 it is a square butt 2 it is a flat latch. Maybe 3, I am a sucker for older guns that have survived in good shape. I am no gunsmith so I tend to stay away from really old stuff. Thankyou so much for your input.
