I have a chance to purchase a model 34-1 2" Blue, round butt, LNIB, with all the original paperwork. What are these guns going for. I believe I can get it for $600. Not sure if that is a good price, just want some more opinions.

My experience has been that they're pretty hard to come by in the used market - people tend to hold on to them. They're a high quality revolver, light in weight and a lot of fun. When I was younger, I used to see them with trigger shoes installed, which I was always cautioneed that it was an accident waiting to happen. Now that I have one, I understand why others have equipped theirs with a trigger shoe. A combination of a narrow, serrated trigger, and a small grip frame makes it no fun to shoot in the double-action mode. Currently, I'm looking for a smooth faced, wider trigger for my Model 34-1. If I can't find one, I guess I'll find a replacement trigger and polish the serrations off of it to see if that makes a difference. As you probably know, the Model 63 is the stainless steel version of the Model 34, and they are just as difficult to find in the used format. I agree with sqhead's assessment - around $500.00 - $600.00 is the going rate for either a Model 34 or Model 63 - assuming you can find one for sale.

Best of luck,

Dave

I bought a used but good shape 4" 34-1 off of gunbroker about a year ago. I paid $490 for it by the time it was in my hands with shipping and an FFL transfer. Great little 22lr and one I would be hard pressed to sell. The shorter 2" barrels seem to demand a slightly higher price (at least on gunbroker) most go for around $450-550 then you have shipping and an FFL so $600 sounds in line to me. K frame 22s I see for cheaper and if plinking and target is the main goal you might be happier with the smooth K frame action.

Any LNIB blued, pre-lock, forged metal .22lr S&W will go for $600 or more around here. Used gun prices can vary to as low as $300 for beaters, but not much lower unless there is something seriously wrong with the gun or someone has no idea what they have.

Sold a nickel 34 no-dash,ANIB to a member here not too long ago for $525,but I'm stupid and price my guns too cheap. Gonna try and remedy that. But,to answer your question,$600 OTD ain't bad.
