Model 34 Prices

I'm thinking of putting my model 34 on the market in the near future and wondered if anyone has seen any while out and about at gun shows or local shops and what they are selling for. I know they are very seldom seen around here at the local gun shows and shops so I haven't seen a lot of them to compare prices.

Mine is in quite good shape but does have a couple of things worth noting. It is a 1977 model, 4" barrel in blue, and is in the original box with papers.

I have seen a nickel snubbie 34 at the local show and it has been sitting on the table at $750 or so. It is a little scuffed up though.

Anyways figured some of you folks might have seen some out there in your travels.

I picked up 2 last weekend. A 4" and a 2". I passed on a very clean 4" @ $950. My 2" is nicer for about a hundred less. The 4" was well under that.

I saw a gentleman trying to sell a 2" nickel in the not correct box. He wanted $1100. Everyone passed.

Don't know if any of that helps or not.

I would suggest going to Gunbroker and using an "advanced search" for only "completed auctions" see what they have actually been selling for. Be sure to note only the actually sold items, and not the unsold re-listed items. You will probably find an average 4" blued 34 selling in the $550 to $650 range.

I was shocked to see a model 34 2" this week in a 2" with box and papers going for a $1000. Do I need to tell that it was listed on GB, it and the M66-2 2.5" (gun only) for $1200 would make a nice pair. Geeeze do I need to tell the part of the anatomy these folks are pulling their "PIE IN THE SKY" prices from?

I agree with H Richard's valuation. I was lucky enough to find my Model 34-1 a few years ago at a decent price - I think it was around $350.00 - no box or tools. Also, the previous owner allowed some corrosive - I think it was blood - to remain on the backstrap. Other than that, she's a good looking piece, and a lot of fun to shoot.

I paid $600.00 for my 34-1 2" no box or papers. That was a few months ago. I have to say I think its in excellent condition but I'm no where near an expert on ratings. I can only say I'm very happy with it's condition. Additionally; I thought $600.00 was a lot but I wanted it....

You actually have a Mod 34-1 (even if the -1 is missing), it is a J frame. I agree with H. Richard on the value; maybe slightly more if you had the tools.

Rd or Sq butt?

If it were a true Model 34 which is built on the Model of 1953 "New" I frame, add a $100 to value! More for sq butt and more for box numbered to the gun, etc.

Paid $600 last year for the 2".

About a year ago I got a "Collectors" unfired 4" 34 at a LGS. Everything is in the box and I don't think the gun had been out of the box in years.

About $600....... which I felt was "cheap" for what I got.... but I wanted it to pass on to one of my boys down the road...... closer to the "burgh" it would have been a $800 package IMO.

Regrettably, this past weekend at the Reno show, I passed on a 2" nickel 34-1 for $625. After realizing my mistake, I went back and it was long gone.
