I just aquired a model 34-0 4" BBL. I did not clean it before I took it to the range. I was shooting different kinds of ammo. After a while, the hammer refused to go back into single action and the trigger would not release. This happened after 50 or so rounds. Happened 3 times. When I unloaded the gun and reloaded it, the problem resoled itself until it happened again after so many rounds. Could it be as simple as a dirty gun? Any advice appreciated. Other than this and an occasional difficulty with the cylinder sticking (ie ejector latch is loose, needs to be tightened) the gun was a tack driver.

Yes, probably a dirty gun. Clean it well to include back of barrel, face of cylinder (lead build up) and under the ejector star for powder fouling.

Also, avoid cheap bulk pack high velocity ammo like the Winchester. Winchester copper plated ammo and Federal copper plated ammo are good and give no problems in my 34 and K22 but the other stuff sure hangs them up. The K22 did have a cock eyed barrel breech whick took a couple strokes of a file to correct.

Agree with Dan Cash, look for the obvious first.I have problems with my 34 occasionally, usually some crap under the extractor or the recess's in back of cylinder get dirty and need to be scraped out,or the rounds won't seat properly.
