Greetings Smith fans. I am visiting a friend in Pensacola and decided to look up a couple gun shops to see what they were like up here. As compared to the big city, Miami.

Long story short. I visit a mom & pop shop, and find nothing but new guns except an old model 10-7 for $299.

Speaking to the owner (of 28 years) I mentioned that I collect Smith & Wessons. He says he has an old 22 in the safe. (pulse rate quickens, mouth begins to water)
He brings out a small blue box, opens it and wrapped in a terry cloth towel inside is a model 35.

6 inch patridge fr. sight, model marked 35, no dash. Ser. # 61*** places it 1959. Flat latch ,diamond magnas, 3 screw frame.
papers ,cleaning kit ,box is perfect, ser.# grease penciled on the bottom.

Here's the ticker, the revolver is perfect. Unscathed. Gorgeous.

He tells me he got it 10 years ago to hand down to his daughter. But she is now not interested in guns.

He would consider selling it,if the price was right. A photocopy of an old gun values book he has in the box has a price of $710. But he says that was years ago.

Now that I've rambled on, my question is ; what is todays real world price on one of these?

Is the 35 nodash a fairly scarce variation?

I get the impression he"s in no hurry to sell, but for the right price he would.

This is the only one of these I've ever seen and I'm excited (can't you tell?)

Any help you an give will be greatly appreciated!

BDGreen? where are you?

Regards ,,,Al
I'd never held one of these before and now I understand the allure.

Al,
That is still an I frame(short cyl) gun. You have a LESS than 3 yr window to get a 35-NO DASH. Say Model numbers begin in 57-58. The 35 became a J frame(LONG cyl Model 35-1 in 1960.
You are looking at a complete, perfect package.
Where ya gonna get one?
Dicker hard, then JUMP.

Thanks Lee , I know I know.
I'm just wondering about value. I mean are we talking $1000 here?
I usually buy and trade beaters

,,well you know what I mean.

I'm probably way off base here, but jeeze, that seems like a lot for one of them. $1000??? That's like worth 2 nearly perfect K22's. Is a M35 really worth 2 K22's? Even at $700, complete with box & stuff, I'd sorta feel like I bought too soon. Just my first impression, and I've been wrong on those a time or 2 (...maybe that's why I've only got 1 M35). -S2

Speedo , thats why I'm asking. I'm not saying I can spend $1000 for this model 35 ,I just want to know what I could pay.

I've done searches on this forum and auction sites, google and as of yet have not found much info or pricing.

I leave Saturday to go back to So. Florida. If I'm going to make this deal it's going to be tomorrow.

Al,
What will he take??
The facts- Perfect gun. Perfect Box. Goodies.
HAS to be PRE 1960, so, about to be 50 years old- as in C&R. The Kalifornians........
Yes, it IS a $1000 gun.
GET ALL OVER IT.

Don't know which Blue Book he has, but my 24th edition has a 100% M35 at $500. SCS&W3 shows $800 for As-New Pre-35's. I know those references are a bit dated, not real world, and that the BB is notorious for under-valuing S&W's, but those are the listed values. Based on Mr.Jerrett's and Mr.Green's comment, I guess $850 +/- 10% is the ball park for the package, but I'd sure want to be playing infield. I don't see them often, but I do occasionally see M35's at shows; and I don't recall seeing them as $1000 guns (unless they once belonged to George Wimmer). -S2

So,,, did you buy it?
I picked one up about 5 years ago, same s/n# range, 61xxx. I'd only rate it around 95%. I paid $400, no box, no papers. It's definitely a sweet little piece.

Zonk...............

Just returned from Pensacola. My sons 10th. birthday,he lives up there with his mother.

YES ,I did buy the gun. Went back on Saturday , like a moth drawn to a flame.
The gentleman accepted my offer of $800 plus tax for $$865.

He also let me lay it away for 30 days, 1/4 down.

Thank you Bob and Lee and everyone else for putting up with this neurotic gun buyer

Let me know the next time you see any near perfect K22's for 500 bucks. I'll buy them all

Al,
I'd have to agree with Mr. Jarrett. You are looking at a complete package that you will probably not run into again! I'd have been all over it at 1000 or even a bit more. That's just me though.

Now that you've got it, how about some pics!

How would you like to make $135 for a finders fee?

Al,
Way to go. You won't regret it. Mint PACKAGES are drying up, and our numbers are ever growing. I would have bought it, too!

Congrats on a great find!

1. Where was the shop (I used to live in Pensacola)?

2. Get that terry cloth away from your gun! I bought a Colt Woodsman Match Target for $50 from a dealer because someone had wrapped it in a towel and put it away. Fortunately, no functional damage, but that gun is not cosmetically challenged - it is cosmetically challenged and defeated! Terry cloth is for drying wet bodies. For protecting guns we use RIG. Plastic is useful for protecting non-metal from RIG.

Allen, I feel very sorry for you. NOW what are you gonna do with a find like that? Look at it, wipe it off and put it away, or, horror of horrors, shoot it!?

When I put that question to a wise old dealer at a show one day, he asked me in return, "If you married Pamela Anderson, would you just look at her every night?"

Lee , thanks for the words and encouragement. I guess as one crosses the line from shooter/accumulator to collector some angst may be felt. The thought of owning an unfired in box anything is exciting and yet sad.
I've always fired all my guns at least once, and enjoyed that part immensely.

THe shop in Pensacola is on Pine Forest Road ,it's called Buck and Bass. The owner is a Christian and a gentleman.

FRiday the 15th. my income tax refund should be deposited into my account.
I've already made arrangements for payment and shipping, then should have the gun on the 16th.

I have for some time now considered my collection to be my "steel 401K" and anything I acquire now that will be worth a little more a few years from now, hopefully will help me retire with a modicum of dignity.

Take care and God bless ,,,Allen
