Passed on a 64-3 with 3" barrel and real Tyler T-grip

In made a visit to my LGS yesterday and found a 64-3 with 3" barrel, bobbed hammer, and original Tyler T-grip.

The price is good and it's in great shape.

I was about to buy it. But I overlooked the fact that due to recently moving, my carry permit and license show different address. Hence I couldn't take it out of the store. I took it as a sign that it just wasn't meant to be, shrugged my shoulders, and left. I've got more guns than I can shoot anyway. Whew! I saved myself some money!

This morning I went to the sheriff's office and got my permit updated.

Guess what? Now I'm thinking about that gun. I don't own any 3-inch k-frames. Let alone any with the other features. It seems like it fills a niche in my collection.

What do you all think? How highly prized is a specimen like this?

California Youth Authority. Most likely a parole agents gun. Parole agents for both Corrections and the Youth Authority carried 2 and occasionally 3 inch round butts, many but not all carried either CDC or CYA stampings sometimes along with a inventory control number. Some will even be found with department applied electric pencil numbers too.

I sold my 3" model 13 and have regretted it. I do own a pristeen 65 3" with box . And two 2 1/2" and three inch 66s. I will no longer buy a Smith unless it has its proper wood grips and hammer. Spent too much time and money replacing those components. Enjoy your 64.

How is that possible? Carried i mean, it's new. I mean old but brand new.
