I recently picked up a model 36-1. I am looking for some help determining the year it was made. The number on the bottom of the grips is ADM19xx. Does that number should good? In all the posts on this site abouth other model 36's, I have never seen those types of numbers....thanksIMG_0142.JPG

According to the SCSW, it appears your Md 36-1 was made in 1983. In 1980 S&W began using three letter prefixes for their revolver and semi auto serial numbers.

The 3-letter + 4-number serial number format shown is valid. I'm away from my Standard Catalog but circa 1983-1984 sounds right.

What doesn't seem right is a 2" barrel on a 36-1. In my experience, the -1 . . . and its successor the -3 . . . was a 3" heavy barrel.

Please help me here . . . did the -1 come with a 2" barrel in its final year or two of production?

Russ
