Model 36-2

Recently purchased 36-2, 2" barrel...factory says date of manufacture 8.13.90. Came with original box & papers. Barrel not 2", measures approx. 1-13/16". Has electric pen marking on crane in 1/8" block letters either 053 or D53. Has exceptional trigger. Shoots well. Extra marking?

Welcome! The D53 is an assembler, fitter or inspector's marking, an S & W mystery. The barrels are supposed to be 1 7/8" but as you see there is slight variation in them. Enjoy!

There are also some 3/8" diameter white paper stickers on the frame at the bottom of the butt with the #16. In addition to the D53 there is a 3877 etched at the bottom of the butt on the frame under the grip. The trigger is almost too good to be true...could this be telling me it had an action package done at the factory?

I would think that it probably was just a factory trigger that has been used enough to "smooooth" out the trigger mating surfaces. Be Happy!
