Model 36 date?

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted in awhile but someone I know is curious to know what vintage his 36 is and I figured what better place to find out.

The serial number is 6JXXX. It has a 3" barrel which is pinned, but he states that it is marked as a MOD 36, with no "dash" number. Any help is truly appreciated.

That would be a 1971 serial number and likely shipped the same year.

It's a 1971 shipped gun due to the unusual SN prefix. The 3" heavy barrel model 36 (your gun) and the bull barrel 36-1 were produced at this time. Hope this is helpful.

Agree with Russ - I have a 6J Model 36 that shipped May 1971
