I acquired a model 36 (retired duty gun) that came from a retired NYPD officer. Serial on butt is xxxxx9. There are various other numbers in other places but I don't think they're serial numbers (B6 and 48312 appear in a couple of places). Thanks in advance for any info, be it date of manufacture or anything else. The guy I purchased from said they only used +P. Of course, the barrel is not marked for +P.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum,
Late 1984-early 1985 for a shipping date. The only number on the revolver that means anything is on the butt which is the official serial#. The other numbers are either assembly numbers or inspector's stamps. Hope you enjoy your new acquisition.

Would a revolver of this vintage be rated for +P? I never noticed how much barrels can be different until I compared the very thick barrel of my 10-8 to the comparatively thin barrel of the 36.

Hard to tell much from that -- how 824tsv came up with a 1984-85 ship date is beyond me. How about the whole serial number with just the last two characters x'd out?

Nice clear pics would be beneficial for determining value too!
