Im new here. I just got my first s&w. Model 36. Love it. Was tring to find its age. J232812 on bottom of grip. Mod 36 , 255x3 , g11 are seen when you open the cylinder. What do these numbers mean. Thanks

Looks like your gun was shipped in the 1973-1974 time frame - probably 1974.

Those other numbers (255x3 , g11) are factory assembly/inspection numbers and mean nothing to us.

thank you. its agreat gun. i paid 300 for it. good condition. is that a fair price. its nickel and has the longer barrel

That is a great price for a gun in good condition.
I would say your gun is worth $450 to $500. The longer
barrel adds some value also. Don
