Model 36 Manufacture Date?

Hello All,

I'm new here and just received this Model 36 yesterday that was my dad's. I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me when the gun was manufactured. The serial number is J83878. Here are a couple of pics of the gun. Thanks in advance.

Looking for Manufacture Date

Like S&W Coastie, I just found your site. I have a Model 36 with the number stamped in the hinge. It is 52534 followed by larger letters C-13 below that. Does anyone have an idea of whet it was made?

The number stamped in the "hinge" (yoke cutout of the frame) is an assembly number used in the factory to match fitted parts before assembly; is not the serial number; nor useful in determining when your Model 36 was made.

We'll need the serial number from the butt of the grip frame to estimate age . . . and may require removing grips if they cover the butt.

Same question here...

My Model 36(No Dash) looks stainless but could it be chrome? Serial No. 90J2XX. Trying to figure out the date of manufacture. Pinned barrel and 3 screws.

The finish is nickel plate.
